Traffic accidents in Hyderabad are increasing every day. While, the road lenght has not increased the number of vehicles are. Recently, there has been a report that analyzed the hotspots, where most of the traffic accidents happen. While the spread of accidents is all across the city the major reasons for the accident can be attributed to the following reasons.
The traffic rules are only on paper.
No citizen of Hyderabad cares a damn about traffic rules.
Infact for the Govt too, managing the traffic is on a low priority.
The design of roads and pavements is not scientific.
The traffic department is understaffed and overburdened.
The infrastructure of the city is ill equipped to meet the projected traffic in the next few years.
Finally, the scarce resources of the city are spent on projects such as Metro rail and PVR Expressway, whose Return on Investment to the good of common man are questionnable.
While their is an urgent need to involve corporate and non government agencies to cope with the magnitude of the problem, we citizens also need to give an helping hand to the traffic department by following and obeying traffic rules.
